The simulation isn't given any clues as to how I should play it differently if it wants the player to engage with it differently. It would seem that more work than that has been put into this but I really have my doubts about that now.Įither this is super deep simulation and 6 hours wasn't nearly long enough (in which case the map scale is way too small for that realistic of a simulation and who really has that much time anymore) or crotchwalk ridgelines glassing down into shady valleys, listening for calls, and hoping to spot a herd or come across some somewhat fresh tracks to follow alternating with calling from concealment on the edge of such valleys I have a good vantage over to try and bring something my way or elicit a call instead isn't an effective play style for this genre. I have to wonder if this is just a forest environment and a scripted tutorial being sold as a hunting simulation. This sandbox feels dead and unpopulated and like there may have been animals in it a week ago since they've left their ancient tracks around but they go nowhere and don't get any fresher. In 6 hours of playtime both ambushing and stalking gameplay styles produced no encounters. (COTW was better at getting the player and it's animals together but that's where that title falls apart). While I can't recommend that game either this one's no improvement or even a more action oriented game that I would have been okay with at this point. The new game is developed by Romanian studio FUN Labs, veterans of survival, hunting, and fishing.
Publisher 505 Games announced a new hunting-survival simulator Open Country for PC, slated for launch in a couple of months. Well, tried this out hoping maybe this would be better or at least different than The Hunter: Call of the Wild but this isn't the game to take your business over to the competition with. The game is being developed by industry veterans who previously worked with the Cabela's license.
